A universal method of solving quartic equations (English)
0 references
The author of the paper under review describes the five methods for solving a quartic equation known by the names of Descartes-Euler-Cardano, Ferrari-Lagrange, Neumark, Christianson-Brown, and Yacoub-Fraidenraich-Brown, and then shows that all these methods are particular versions of a universal method that he exhibits. This universal method can be used to generate more algorithms that satisfy certain desired properties. A \texttt{MAXIMA} script is appended.
