This paper deals with shape preserving schemes for the visualization of positive, constrained and monotone data given on rectangular grids. The main focus of work is on the representation of data in such a way that it is visually pleasing, its shape is preserved. A rational bi--cubic function is constructed for this objective. Simple sufficient data dependent constraints are derived on the free parameters in the description of rational bi--cubic functions to visualize the shape of surface data. The developed schemes are local. The algorithms of construction of a rational bi--cubic function are proposed. Examples which illustrate the algorithms are given in the paper.
