From KP/UC hierarchies to Painlevé equations (English)

The author studies reductions of infinite-dimensional integrable systems such as KP and UC hierarchies to the Painléve equations and their higher order generalizations by requiring homogeniety and periodicity. It is shown how to understand various aspects of the Painléve equations (Lax formalism, Hirota bilinear relations, Weyl group symmetry, algebraic solutions) in this framework.
