The author applies the Lyapunov functional method to discuss the asymptotic stability and boundedness of solutions of a class of third order differential equations with retarded arguments.NEWLINENEWLINEThe results include and improve known results in the literature, in particular the motivating paper of \textit{A. U. Afuwape} and \textit{M. O. Omeike} in [Appl. Math. Comput. 200, No. 1, 444--451 (2010; Zbl 1316.34070)] and in [Comput. Appl. Math. 29, No. 3, 329--342 (2010; Zbl 1216.34068)]. An example is given to illustrate the results obtained.
