On the weakly nonlinear Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of tangential discontinuities in MHD (English)
0 references
This paper derives equations for a weakly nonlinear Kelvin Helmholtz instability and studies the dynamics of tangential discontinuities in ideal incompressible MHD close to the onset of a Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. It is shown that the nonlinearity does not regularize the Hadamard instability of the linearized equation; rather, it has a destabilizing effect and gives a criterion for it to occur.
