Interaction of radiation with matter. (English)
0 references
The prime focus of this book is the ionizing radiation tracks in water and the use of Monte Carlo simulation of radiation in living matter to follow the passage of such tracks. Description of radiation tracks is presented through an elementary level to an updated level within classical, as well as modern, condensed matter physics aspects.NEWLINENEWLINE The book is divided into four sections. The first section deals with the fundamentals of radiation fields and its basic interaction with matter. The second section explores the cross sections of various interactions, among which electrons with heavy ions, which provide important information for simulation of radiation tracks at molecular level. The third section is concerned with the inelastic scattering and energy loss of charged particles in condensed media, particularly, liquid water. The fourth section provides over 90 questions and problems to further explore the subject of the book.
