The positivity preserving property for the biharmonic operator NEWLINE\[NEWLINE\Delta^2 u=f\quad \text{in } \Omega,\qquad u={{\partial u}\over{\partial \nu}}\quad \text{on } \partial \Omega NEWLINE\]NEWLINE is investigated. It is discussed the case where the domain is an ellipse (that may degenerate to a strip) and the data is a polynomial function. Various conditions for which the positivity is preserved are provided.
