The classification problem is one of the fundamental problems in algebraic geometry. The minimal model program was completed by Kawamata, Kollár, Mori, Reid, Shokurov and many others. In this survey, the authors give a brief introduction to the canonical and explicit classification of algebraic threefolds, an area that they have made many contributions. They survey their theory of baskets and its applications, the framework of the geography for 3-folds of general type and list some open problems.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1235.00045].
