The authors study the excitation of surface perturbations for the transverse flow of an ideal liquid around a cylinder. The flow consists of two layers of different density. The cylinder is positioned either above or below the layers interface. For the calculations, the obstacle is replaced with a point dipole. Asymptotic solutions are obtained which show the generation of two wave modes at the surface.
