Intensification of water exchange between the shelf and the Arctic basin in conditions of ice depletion (English)

The authors develop a model of shelf water convection and cascading in the Arctic basin. The motion of more saline water along the slope takes place in the Ekman layer near the bottom. The salt balance equation across slope is analogous to the heat balance equation. At the global scale the dense water of high latitudes provides the stability of global thermohaline circulation.
