Rock mass and extracted coal seam are investigated. The stresses in face zone of anisotropic seam are calculated by characteristic method. The stresses in rock mass are determined on the base of solution of the problem of elasticity theory for anisotropic half-plane. The thermodynamic phenomena resulted from the redistribution of stresses are studied.
