The monograph under review is devoted to life and activities of German scientist Wilhelm Matzka who taught at the University of Prague in 1850--1871. He lectured there on algebra, differential and integral calculus, geometry, probability calculus, number theory, mathematical physics etc. He held a prominent place in the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences. As a scientist Matzka was mostly interested in mathematics and physics. He published more than 70 works such as textbooks, articles, historical, methodical and popular studies. Three of them (those on chronology, complex numbers and logarithms) were reprinted in 2010.
