The paper contains four lectures concerning various aspects of function theory on the bidisk, approached by means of Hilbert space methods. As the author puts it, he is ``shining a Hilbertian lamp on the bidisk''. The first lecture is dedicated to model theory, dealing with several properties of kernels on the bidisk. The second lecture presents results from interpolation theory and interpolating sequences. The third lecture concerns distinguished varieties and Andô's inequality, while the fourth deals with angular derivatives. All lectures start with a discussion of classical models, related to functions on the unit disk. The work is an excellent introduction into this matter for beginners, but advanced researchers can also find plenty of interesting comments, ideas of proofs, and useful references.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1232.30005].
