Black holes in four dimensions (Q2906674)

The author reviews some old and new facts about black holes in four-dimensional spacetimes. The first part deals with some explicit exact solutions (de Sitter, Kerr, Reissner-Nordström, Schwarzschild). Then, the study focuses on specific properties of black holes in arbitrary four-dimensional spacetimes (uniqueness, stability, topology of the event horizon, cosmic censorship); all of these ones cannot be extended in higher dimensions.
