Nonlinear piecewise defined difference equations (Q2909849)

The authors consider the following nonlinear difference equation: NEWLINE\[NEWLINEx_{k}=\begin{cases} hx_{k-1}^{2},&\text{if } x_{k-1}\leq v\\ hx_{k-1}-j,&\text{if }x_{k-1}>v\end{cases}\tag{\(*\)} NEWLINE\]NEWLINE for \(k=1,2,\dots\); \(h,j,v\) and \(x_0\) are positive integers. They obtain several sufficient conditions in terms of \(h,j\) and \(v\) for which (\(*\)) has periodic solutions. Some of these conditions are not accurate.
