Recently, the unitary extension principle and mixed extension principles have been applied to construct compactly supported wavelet frames [\textit{M. Skopina}, Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 27, No. 1, 55--72 (2009; Zbl 1171.42021)], where necessary and sufficient conditions under which a pair of refinable functions generates dual wavelet frames with a given number of vanishing moments have been found. The author shows how this approach can be combined with the lifting like scheme to improve the number of vanishing moments of a given MRA--based wavelet frame. A simple way of the construction of wavelet frames using the polyphase components of the filter is also presented. Examples are given.
