The author proves the existence of mild solutions of a semilinear nonlocal Cauchy problem in a Banach space. The linear operator that governs the evolution equation is assumed to generate a compact semigroup. The paper generalizes an earlier work by the author and \textit{R. Yuan} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 71, No. 9, A, 4177--4184 (2009; Zbl 1179.34063)].
