The paper presents short biographies of two mathematicians born in the territory of Slovenia in the 19th century. (At that time, Slovenia was a part of the Austrian-Hungarian empire.)NEWLINENEWLINEThe first part describes the activities of Franc Močnik (1814--1892) and his roles as a teacher, professor of mathematics in Lviv and Olomouc, and a prolific textbook writer.NEWLINENEWLINEThe second part is devoted to the life and work of Franc Hočevar (1853--1919), who spent most of his professional career in Innsbruck, Brno, and Graz. As in Močnik's case, Hočevar was an influential teacher and textbook writer.
