How we think. A theory of goal-oriented decision making and its educational applications (English)

Schoenfeld introduces a convincing theory of explaining problem solving activities. The components needed for explanation are the problem solver's resources, goals and orientation and the way they work together in making decisions. Schoenfeld applies this theory on the ad hoc problem solving activities that teachers face in classroom. He demonstrates the development of models of decision making with three lessons of three different teachers. As a test for the generality of the theory he applies it also for modeling a problem solving activity in a doctor-patient situation.
