The authors study the (big) lattices of pretorsion classes and pretorsion free classes, ordered by inclusion, in the category of left unital modules over an associative ring with identity. The main result obtained is that the rings for which these two lattices coincide are precisely the (left and right) Artinian principal ideal rings.
