The author studies the Bass and topological stable ranks of certain subalgebras of the disc algebra. In particular, he shows that, for every integer \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), there is a subalgebra of the disc algebra with Bass and topological stable rank \(n\) and \(n+1\), respectively.NEWLINENEWLINEIn particular, for \(\mathbb{D}=\{z: \left| z\right|<1\}\), the disc algebra \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}})\) is the collection of functions that are continuous on \(\overline{\mathbb{D}}\) and holomorphic on \(\mathbb{D}\). The polydisc algebras \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}}^n)\) and \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}}^\infty)\) are defined in an analogous manner. By showing that there are subalgebras \(A_n\) in the disc algebra that are algebraically isomorphic to the polydisc algebra, the author is able to obtain the desired results about the stable ranks of subalgebras of \(A(\overline{\mathbb{D}})\) from well-known results in the literature.
