Sankara Variyar was a sixteenth-century Indian mathematician who wrote a commentary on \textit{Lilavati} of Bhaskaracarya-II which is known to us as a textbook ``Kriyakramakari''. The speciality of this book is to construct a sine table by means of recurrence relation which is quite different from Aryabhata-I's method. The method which is given by Sankara Variyar is based upon a theorem satisfied by the chords in a circle which is known to us as Jyasamvarga-nyaya.NEWLINENEWLINEThe paper is divided into six sections, viz: (1) Introduction, (2) Jyanayana in the early phase of Siddhantic period, (3) The recurrence relation of Aryabhata, (4) Theorem on the chords of a circle, (5) From Jyasamvarga-nyaya to Jyanayana, (6) Discussion. Each section is well written and well explained. The paper may help those who are working on medieval Indian mathematics.
