Minimal triangulations of two-dimensional manifolds (Q297656)

In this article author gives six non-isomorphic minimal triangulations of the Klein Bottle, each using 8 vertices. It is then proved, by considering various cases, that these are the only 8-vertex triangulations of the Klein Bottle. The author also gives a minimal triangulation of a surface of genus 2 by attaching a triangulated handle to the minimal triangulation of the torus. It is claimed that by repeatedly attaching handles to a minimal triangulation of a surface of genus \(g\) we either get a minimal triangulation of a higher genus surface of a close approximation to a minimal triangulation.
