This paper studies a deterministic SIS epidemic spreading model with infection and recovery rates related to a random environment. Based on the continuous-time Markov chain theory, the authors derive a system of ODEs that govern the steady-state distribution of the number of infectives. Two special cases of alternating environment and slowly/rapidly changing environment are deeply looked into. Some numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the obtained results. In particular, the proposed framework is potentially applicable for epidemic spreading involving seasonality effects and environmental influences.
