This paper proposes a numerical technique based on finite difference formula for solving the time fractional diffusion-wave equation. Using energy methods the authors obtain that the time discrete scheme is unconditionally stable and convergent of order \({\mathcal O}(\tau^{3-\alpha})\). A related problem featuring the Robin boundary condition is further discussed. Numerical experiments that relate to accuracy and efficiency of the proposed scheme are also presented.
