The main theorem of this paper is a generalization of Maksa's theorem about the solution of the pexiderized fundamental equation of information [\textit{Gy. Maksa}, Util. Math. 21C, 267--282 (1982; Zbl 0497.94003)]: \[ F(x)+G\left(\frac{y}{1-x}\right)=H(y)+K\left(\frac{x}{1-y}\right). \] Continuous solutions are given on symmetric cones by Theorem 3.5.
