Using an innovative route, the authors employ a probabilistic way of thinking to estimate parameter regimes that are able to lead to air-water ``global interfaces'' in a 2D porous domain made of uniformly distributed circular grains. The asymptotic regimes depend essentially on the details of the balancing between capillarity and gravity forces.
