The author studies the discriminant variety associated to a linear system of divisors (and hence the singularities of a general plane section of the dual variety of a smooth projective variety) when the field has characteristic \(3\). He shows that singular points of \(E_6\)-type take the place of ordinary cusps appearing in the characteristic \(0\) case. He also quotes a preprint of his [\texttt{http://www.math.hokudai.ac.jp/\(\sim\)shimada/preprints}] concerning the characteristic \(2\) case.
