For an infinitely smooth self-diffeomorphism of the plane with fixed saddle point at the origin having a nontransversal point homoclinic to the saddle, the author proves a sufficient conditions for the self-diffeomorphism to have a countable set of stable periodic points whose characteristic exponents are bounded away from zero. He also describes the construction of a function to satisfy the sufficient conditions.
