One proves the accuracy of the Bogoliubov approximation for the excitation spectrum of a trapped Bose gas, in the mean-field where the interaction is weak and long range. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of the system can be bounded from above and below by the so-called Bogoliubov Hamiltonian, which is particle number conserving.
