The author presents a complete introduction to Lie groupoids, with special emphasis on equivalences and proper groupoids. Let us recall that Lie groupoids provide new perspectives to classic geometric results. This work first recalls the principal results concerning Lie groupoids. Then, the author gives the foundations of Lie groupoids and studies in detail the question of equivalences and proper groupoids. The problem of linearization is also studied.
