The author studies discrete kinetic equations of gas dynamics with particles of finitely many velocities and a finite number of interactions. The model is of Broadwell type. It is shown that there is a submanifold of initial data in Sobolev space for which (global) dissipative solutions exist. Initial data deviating from this manifold give rise to a non-dissiaptive solution part in the form of traveling waves (solitons).
