The authors study the Barkley PDE model of excitable media in a one dimensional periodic domain. The main results treat the impact of additive space time noise on spatio-temporal pattern. The noise is chosen to be spatially smooth with a prescribed correlation length. Due to the noise regions of excitation and boundaries between regions of excitation (i.e., kinks) form and due to the underlying dynamics of the excitable media they propagate.NEWLINENEWLINEThe authors derive a reduced model. Moreover, they compare in numerical experiments the resulting distribution of excitation and kinks both in the full and in the reduced model.
