Fourier transform technology has been wided used in the engineering and science fields. This textbook is clear, well-written and a easily accessible introduction to digital Fourier analysis for undergraduate students. A lot of color figures and applet source codes are also included. In this textbook, Chapter 1 shows that all waveforms can be synthesized by the use of Fourier series; Chapter 2 shows the theory how to determine coefficients of the Fourier series of a periodic function; Chpater 3 inverstigates the most important issue in digitization: sampling; Chapter 4 introduces the discrete Fourier transform and the discrete cosine transform; Chapter 5 introduces the principle of the fast Fourier transform; Chapter 6 focuses on the spectrum. Chapter 7 studies various time windows in order to obtain stable and accurate spectra by the discrete Fourier transform. ``Digital Fourier analysis: Fundamentals'' is the first volume of a book series on digital Fourier analysis. The description is much insufficient for the use of Fourier analysis in the pratical applications. More deep knowledge is included in the second volume [Digital Fourier analysis -- advanced techniques (2015; Zbl 1302.65290)].
