The author analyzes the local geometry of the Nehari manifold associated to super-linear and sub-critical nonlinear elliptic problems. It is proved that the energy of a sequence of points on the Nehari manifold along which the number of non-positive principal curvatures tends to infinity, is unbounded from above.
