The paper considers a lagged diffusitivity functional iteration (LDFI)-procedure for the solution of a nonlinear steady-state reaction-diffusion problem defined on a two-dimensional bounded domain. The procedure is based on computing the solution by ``lagging'' the diffusion term. A model problem is considered and its finite difference discretisation is constructed and analysed. The results of numerical studies are also presented.
