The paper is devoted to universal Taylor series in some unbounded non-simply connected domains. The authors show that such series can be represented as series of rational functions satisfying a double simultaneous approximation property. They obtain stronger statements of recent results [\textit{A. Mouze} et al., Comput. Methods Funct. Theory 12, No. 1, 173--199 (2012; Zbl 1262.30072)] using Baire's category theorem. Finally they extend under some additional assumptions these results to the case of meromorphic functions with prescribed poles.
