The authors study the Orlik-Terao algebra of a hyperplane arrangement which is the commutative analog of the much-studied Orlik-Solomon algebra. The authors show that a flat of the arrangement is modular if and only if the Orlik-Terao algebra of the arrangement is a split extension of the Orlik-Terao algebra of the subarrangement restricted to the flat.
