A hyperplane of a partial linear space \(\Delta\) is a subspace which intersects each line non-trivially. If \(\Delta\) admits an embedding into a projective space \(\Sigma\) , then each hyperplane of \(\Sigma\) induces a hyperplane of \(\Delta\). The author surveys known results on hyperplanes and embeddings of dual polar spaces, with special emphasis on the question which hyperplanes arise from embeddings.
