In [Osaka J. Math. 41, No. 2, 427--454 (2004; Zbl 1056.57008)], the second author defined the distance of a \((1,1)\)-splitting of a \((1,1)\)-knot, based on the distance defined by \textit{J. Hempel} [Topology 40, No. 3, 631--657 (2001; Zbl 0985.57014)] for Heegard splittings of closed \(3\)-manifolds. In this paper, the authors study the question of whether a \((1,1)\)-knot admits \((1,1)\)-splittings of different distances. They exhibit one-parameter families of hyperbolic \((1,1)\)-knots which admit Dehn surgeries yielding \(S^3\). All their \((1,1)\)-splittings are of distance three, so that these families are examples that yield a negative answer to the question above.
