Let \(N\) be the inverse limit of the the nilpotent groups of lower triangular matrices with integer coefficients. The main result of the paper states that the group \(N\) admits an injective homomorphism into the group of \(C^1\)-diffeomorphism of an interval. This is a generalisation of a result by Farb and Franks, who proved the analogous statement for finite rank groups.
