The authors apply probabilistic methods and results of \textit{Y. B. Sanderson} [J. Algebra 184, No. 3, 985--1000 (1996; Zbl 0873.17022)] to study weight multiplicities in Demazure modules for the affine Lie algebra of type \(A_1^{(1)}\). In their main theorem they give a formula for the expected degree of a randomly chosen basis element of a Demazure module of \(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2\).
