    A rational interpolation operator for continuous periodic functions is proposed in order to derive a quadrature formula of Gauss type. The coefficients of this quadrature formula are obtained and the accuracy of the quadrature formula is estimated. Using this quadrature formula, a Nyström type method for linear Fredholm integral equations of the second kind is proposed. The convergence of the method is proved obtaining an error estimate for the approximate solution.
