The authors consider the the accelerating-wave reductions of the Korteweg-de Vries and dispersive water wave hierarchies (augmented by lower order flows with coefficients functions of the flow time) to the Painlevé hierarchies (based on the first and second Painlevé equations). The Burgers hierarchy is also considered (leading to the hierarchy of linearizable ODEs).
