The authors study the operational tau approximation for a general class of fractional integro-differential equations. They first give basic definitions of the fractional calculus and then introduce the operation tau method and its application to fractional integro-differential equations. The Legendre and Laguerre polynomials as basic functions are considered. An error estimation of the proposed method is presented. The accuracy and efficiency of the scheme is investigated with three illustrative numerical examples.
