The author is interested in a nonlocal conservation law which describes the morphodynamics of sand dunes sheared by a fluid flow, recently proposed by \textit{A. C. Fowler} [Lect. Notes Phys. 582, 430--454 (2001; Zbl 1169.86305)]. He proves that constant solutions of Fowler's equation are nonlinearly unstable. The fact of this approach is also illustrated using a finite difference scheme.
