By investigating the 3-manifold obtained from iterated connected sums of tori, the authors characterize the nonsingular Morse-Smale system (NMS) links of periodic orbits on \(S^3\) associated to round 1-handles. They obtain a correspondence between flows characterized by the links and the NMS flows on \(S^3\) that are connected sums of flows. They show that such flows have no heteroclinic trajectories connecting saddle orbits.
