Type-Q ABS equations is a class of discrete KdV type equations without singular values which, however, have a rich theory of singularities. The analysis of these equations shows that the singularities of the solutions are naturally associated, via the Bäcklund transformation, with the edges of the lattice. The main theorem of this paper describe geometrically a basic test for the admissibility of a singularity configuration.NEWLINENEWLINEThe global compatibility of an integrable system breaks down in the presence of isolated singularities and it is shown that the possibility of an isolated singularity to imply global inconsistency can be quantified by introducing the monodromy of the isolated singularity.
