Summary: A finite-difference Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) numerical model for solving two-dimensional incompressible turbulent flow problems based on the pseudo-compressibility method is developed. Numerical simulations for modelling a backward-facing step flow, a flow over a surface-mounted square rib, and a flow around a square cylinder displaying an unsteady vortex shedding process were implemented and validated by comparing with the available experimental data and other numerical results. The TVD scheme with a proper turbulence model has very good accuracy. The RNG and Chen-Kim \(k\)-\(\varepsilon\) turbulence models have much better ability of predicting the vortex structure and flow separation characteristics than the standard \(k\)-\(\varepsilon\) model.
