The starting point of this short note is a recent lemma about a decomposition of complex positive semi-definite matrices with a \(2\times 2\) block structure. [``Unitary orbits of Hermitian operators with convex and concave functions'', \url{arXiv:1109.2384}]. Several new consequences of this decomposition are established.
